Striped SkunkWhat does a skunk look like?
  • Skunks are well known for their black and white markings. In Utah there are two species – the western spotted skunk that has black and white spots, and the striped skunk.
How big are they?
  • Spotted skunks are smaller, weighing 2-4 pounds, and striped skunks weigh 6-10 pounds.
Where do they live?
  • They live in wooded areas, grasslands and are sometimes found in urban areas.
What do they eat?
  • Skunks eat small birds, eggs, rodents, insects, reptiles and fruit.

  • Since they are adapted to live well around people, conflicts with skunks occur when skunks seek out food and shelter. Skunks may also prey on small pets and poultry, which makes them disliked.
Threats to Skunks
  • They are often killed when crossing roads.
