Red FoxWhat does a fox look like?
  • There are two kinds of fox in Utah. The common gray fox and the red fox.
  • Red fox are not always red, but can be any shade between red and black. They have a white tip at the end of their tail.
How big are they?
  • Red fox weigh between 7-24 pounds.
Where do they live?
  • Red Fox are found in open and semi-open habitats, although they are sometimes found in forests, cities and suburban settings.
What do they eat?
  • They are opportunistic omnivores. They will eat small mammals, insects, birds, fruits, amphibians, berries, nuts, carrion, and eggs.
What eats them?
  • Larger predators such as bears and cougars are capable of killing and eating fox.
